The pace of activity at TBRHSC continues to be brisk. As
I make note of all the projects undertaken over the summer,
healthcare delivered, and plans for the coming year, I know
the Board of Directors is proud of all that has been accomplished
and anticipates another exemplary year.
Our Board is smaller now and I know it will function more
efficiently. All 15 members are excited about working with
various committees as they perform due diligence. Each Director
will be collaborative with management and staff, as well as
other community and regional healthcare stakeholders.
For the first time, the Board will be working with the Local
Health Integration Network (LHIN). It creates a new dynamic.
This dynamic isn’t well defined; however, the recently
released Closson Report identifies numerous potential changes
at administrative and clinical levels across the region. We
are anticipating excellent cooperation from all our healthcare
partners as funding and the distribution of the care of patients
is considered.
The launching of the Medical School generates numerous opportunities
for change for TBRHSC, as well. Soon, medical students will
be a part of our healthcare fabric. The future of healthcare
in our city and region has never looked more promising.
The second MRI, that we recently launched, puts us in an
exclusive category with only four other cities in Ontario
enjoying more than one unit. Our Diagnostic Imaging wait-lists
are now shorter than they have ever been. Images are taken,
“reads” are done, and care is applied. Thanks
to everyone who played a role in making this happen for us.
Congratulations to the TBHRSC healthcare teams for achieving
another excellent report from the Canadian College of Healthcare
Accreditors. Our newest three-year Accreditation reminds us
of the high standards that we are applying to the patients
and families that we serve.
Our balanced budget process continues. There is so much work
that goes into these submissions to the Ministry. The dynamic
healthcare environment demonstrates that our work is very
much driven by the needs of people. However, the capital costs
that go into creating a people-centered service industry are
extraordinary. I commend our Administrators throughout the
organization for the diligence they apply to their jobs.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we look forward to serving
for another year. Please join us for our Board meetings held
the second Wednesday of each month.
Sincerely,
Ron Nelson, Chair
Board of Directors
