As the members of the TBRHSC Board of Directors convene to pursue a promising fall agenda, I am aware that our physicians, staff, and volunteers have had a busy summer. I commend everyone for their commitment to providing excellent acute care. I can appreciate that at any time, delivering this care requires a lot of planning to ensure that the needs of patients and families are met.

Congratulations to the Cardiac Team and members of the support systems who recently celebrated the completion of the second Angioplasty Suite. The capacity to deliver great care got better, closer to home. Celebrating our reputation as a highly successful “stand alone” Angioplasty provider is in itself a great achievement worthy of our applause. As well, just a week ago, the Centre for Complex Diabetes Care was launched. A lot of patients and families are already being touched in a profound way.

This summer, we also received word from Accreditation Canada that we are a leading healthcare provider excelling to the point where we were named as Canadian “best practice” in two areas: Patient and Family Centred Care and Telemedicine. It is a credit to our teams that we are an example of excellence to the rest of the country, and beyond.

The Board of Directors continues to watch with interest the development of our corporate Strategic Plan 2015. This fall, TBRHSC will launch a set of comprehensive action plans that expresses the will of everyone involved in our Engagement Sessions. Some great ideas were culled from the minds of our partners. We believe that we have set a new destiny for our corporation that includes Comprehensive Clinical Care, Addiction and Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, and Chronic Disease as our key initiatives. We are addressing the cost of each component to ensure that we effectively redirect resources. We have high expectations for the next few years anticipating great outcomes when we review the incremental change in four year’s time. We feel that every member of our organization will be honoured to be a part of our achievements.

I have reviewed some notes of gratitude that have been sent to us from patients and families who have received our care during the summer. These folks took the time to write us and say thanks. We should all be encouraged.

Similarly, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to say thank you to everyone who belongs to our great Patient and Family Centred Care Team. There is no denying that healthcare can be a stressful environment to work in. But, healthcare is also a highly rewarding career to work in, too. I would suggest it makes studying and planning, our commitment to care, and personal sacrifices all the more worthwhile.

It is all part of us developing great relationships so that we can be as our Vision Statement says, “Healthy Together”.

Respectfully,

Angèle Brunelle, Chair
Board of Directors
