State-of-the-art operating suites at Thunder Bay Regional
Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) will allow our surgical patients
to Get Well Soon.
Updated operating suites will provide our surgeons with the
necessary high-tech equipment and capacity to perform minimally
invasive surgery. Traditional operations such as knee repairs
or tumour removals require five to seven days in hospital
and up to six weeks recovery at home. Minimally invasive surgery
enables the patient to return home the same day and recover
in less than one week.
This revolutionary technique involves a slender scope with
miniature lights and camera inserted through a tiny incision,
allowing the surgeon to see inside the body and perform the
operation. Smaller incisions are the key to early and uncomplicated
recovery.

With minimally invasive surgery, the patient
experiences:
- Less pain and scarring
- Lower risk of infection
- Quicker recovery
- Faster return to normal activity
|
Patients of all ages will benefit from the minimally invasive
surgery technique, which applies to several common procedures,
including removal of gall bladder, appendix, spleen, adrenal
gland and kidney, as well as colon resections and orthopedic
surgery.
The purchase of specialized equipment and technology will
maximize the capabilities of minimally invasive surgeries
at our Health Sciences Centre. $1.3 million
is needed to complete the necessary upgrades to our operating
suites.
We ask you to seriously consider making this revolutionary
surgery available in our community and region. Your donation
will help the thousands of surgical patients TBRHSC serves
each year to Get Well Soon.
