Ron Saddington, President & CEO and Ingrid Parkes, Chair of the Board of Directors would like to congratulate Dr. George Derbyshire on his appointment to the position of Chief of Staff of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre effective January 1, 2010.

A highly respected Pediatric Neurologist – the only one in Northern Ontario - Dr. Derbyshire offers a unique understanding of “scope of medical practice” issues since he also practiced primary care medicine in Fort Frances for a few years, before moving to Thunder Bay.

Until a replacement is announced, Dr. Derbyshire will continue his role as the Chief of Pediatrics, a position he has held since 1996. Significantly, we commend him for his recruitment efforts as the Department of Pediatrics is working at full complement, meeting the huge demand for service from our region.

Dr. Derbyshire has received numerous academic and professional practice distinctions in his career. As we continue to roll out Patient and Family Centred Care, I want to acknowledge that he is a previous TBRHSC “Walk the Talk” award winner for excellence in Clinical Practice.

We welcome Dr. Derbyshire to his new role and look forward to his exceptional leadership among us as he serves his peers, staff, volunteers, and patients and families in a dynamic way.

We would also like to thank Dr. Gordon Porter for his outstanding commitment and invaluable contribution as the Chief of Staff since January 2006. Dr. Porter continues his role as Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs.
