In
October, TBRHSC will launch a first-ever Workplace Breast
Screening Challenge to encourage staff who are 50 and over
to register with the Ontario Breast Screening Program and
schedule their first ever Screening Mammogram. TBRHSC Departments,
as well as other Thunder Bay businesses will be invited to
join the Workplace Challenge Campaign.
The Campaign’s goal is to register 300 new women as
clients of the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP); 150
from TBRHSC and 150 from additional workplaces in Thunder
Bay. If an additional 300 eligible women become OBSP clients
in this fiscal year, screening volumes in the region could
reach close to 10,000 and bring us closer to the Cancer 2020
target of 90% of all eligible women screened in Ontario. Currently
our participation rate in the Northwest is 46%.
The Goals of the campaign are to:
- To increase awareness and knowledge of the importance
of breast screening and early detection for women at TBRHSC
and in other Thunder Bay workplaces
- To encourage eligible, but never-screened, women at
TBRHSC and Thunder Bay workplaces to participate in breast
screening
- To increase overall participation rates by eligible
women (50 years of age and over) in Thunder Bay
If you are 50 and over and do not currently participate in
OBSP, we invite you to make your first OBSP appointment for
a screening mammogram. We also invite family members of TBRHSC
staff to participate including, spouses, partners, mothers,
sisters, aunts, daughters, grandmothers. All participating
women will receive a special gift at the time of their Mammogram
appointment.
The Workplace Breast Screening Challenge is the kick off
event for the newly formed TBRHSC Wellness Committee. The
goal of the Wellness Committee is to promote and achieve self
directed health and wellness initiatives within the Thunder
Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre community.
