What
does P.A.R.T.Y. Program stand for?
Our P.A.R.T.Y. is an acronym, which stands for Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth.
What is the P.A.R.T.Y. Program?
The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is a one-day, in-hospital injury awareness and prevention program for youth in Grade eleven. It is internationally
recognized as an injury prevention strategy to contribute to the reduction in the incidence of risk-related trauma in youth. This program
was designed to expose teens to the sometimes tragic consequences of risk-taking behaviors like drinking and driving, dangerous/distracting
driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and not wearing protective gear. Students hear from a number of guest speakers about the consequences
of risky behavior, including police, paramedics, nurses, rehabilitation staff and injury survivors.

The "A" Word |
 |
There is one word that we don't use in P.A.R.T.Y. and it's an "A" word. The word is Accident. An accident
is an act of fate, something we have no control over. The reason we don't use this word is that these injuries and injury-related
deaths that occur are predictable and preventable. In fact, 90% of accidents are predictable and preventable. We all make choices
that can reduce or prevent us from getting injured. Injury is the leading killer of our youth. It kills more people between the
ages of 1 and 44 than all other causes of death combined. |
