Ambulatory Care Unit

Click to listen to this page using ReadPlease The Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) at TBRHSC provides services for eight separate clinics:

ambulatory care 01
  • Colposcopy
  • Cystoscopy
  • Dermatology
  • Endoscopy
  • Fracture Clinic
  • Hemophilia
  • Medical Surgical (Minor Medical/Surgical Procedures)
  • Ophthalmology
  • Pre-Admission (Pre-Surgery Preparation, Diagnostics and Patient Education)

Specialists at each clinic rely on ACU to coordinate a variety of TBRHSC resources including nursing and support staff, special equipment and examination rooms, xray, and lab tests for procedures that need to be performed in a hospital setting. ACU is primarily an outpatient unit for patients who do not require admission for their procedures and tests.

ACU operates completely on a referral basis, and appointments to all clinics are made directly through the physicians’ offices (with the exception of the Fracture Clinic which accepts referrals from Emergency Physicians). Patients do not directly book appointments with ACU.

Hours of operation of ACU depend on volume and the day of the week, but generally reception is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. Individual clinics within ACU operate on their own schedules.

All ACU services are located at 2 clinic locations on Level 2 of TBRHSC, except Endoscopy, which is located on Level 3 adjacent to Surgical Day Care.
