Welcome
to Regional Cancer Care. We are the comprehensive cancer
program for Northwestern Ontario, housed in the Thunder
Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Here you will find
information about all of our cancer care services.
People are generally most at ease when they know what to
expect and how they are likely to react in a given situation.
It is our hope that by providing accurate, up-to-date information
patients and their families will have an increased sense of
control, feel more knowledgeable about what is going on and
experience a reduction in their level of stress.
Using the menu to your left you can find information to suit
your needs, including:

The new provincial plan ensures our cancer system serves
the changing and growing needs of all Ontarians by outlining
priorities to transform cancer services from the patient perspective.
It is driven by a commitment to quality across the cancer
journey - from prevention to survivorship or palliative care
- as the most effective way to manage cancer.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, in collaboration
with Cancer Care Ontario, recently launched a province-wide,
population-based colorectal cancer screening program –
the first of its kind in Canada. The program, ColonCancerCheck,
aims to increase screening rates and decrease colorectal cancer-related
deaths in Ontario.
For more information about colorectal cancer and how to get
tested, visit the ColonCancerCheck
website.
Our
cancer care services span the region, with prevention and
screening, diagnostics, education, in-patient and out-patient
treatment, surgical treatment, and supportive and palliative
care. We also have a strong academic component with education
and industry partnerships, an evolving research program, training
programs, internships and placement programs.
Our 13 affiliated sites across Northwestern Ontario provide coordinated care closer to home, and for those patients having to travel
in from our region, we provide a home away from home in TBayTel Tamarack House, our lodge
for regional cancer patients and their families.
Regional Cancer Care has also launched its first Report Card, highlighting the performance of regional cancer services over the past
two years. It is a measurement of our performance against our Regional Cancer Plan. Regional Cancer Care continues to be a top performer
with some of the best wait times in Ontario in all three treatment options: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. We are ranked
number one in three out of four wait times measured provincially and are among the best in the province for high performance in Radiation
and Systemic Wait Times.
Along with our existing services, our Foundation, through
the Northern
Cancer Fund, helps us continually improve our services,
through fundraising efforts including special events, gifts
from the community, grants, and legacy gift planning services.
All funds raised by the Northern Cancer Fund are 100% dedicated
to the region and residents of Northwestern Ontario.
