Dr. Dimitrios Vergidis
Chief of Oncology

 

Dr. Vergidis Click to listen to this page using ReadPlease Dr. Vergidis has led an interesting and varied career in Medicine and Oncology. Since his early days in medicine at the New York Institute of Technology and the University of Alberta, his training has included Internal Medicine, Haematology, Immunology and Medical Oncology.

 

He has trained medical students through the Department of Internal Medicine and Haematology at the University of Alberta, and is currently an Associate Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at McMaster University. His participation with medical associations, various boards and committees is extensive, reaching provincial and national levels.

 

He is extensively published, independently and collaboratively, and has received numerous awards and distinctions. Dr. Vergidis joined Regional Cancer Care in 1991, and has operated as the Head of Medical Oncology and Haematology and the Coordinator of the Systemic Therapy Network for a number of years.

 

He maintains an active practice, and based upon patient reaction, he often goes above and beyond the expectations of his position. In September of 2003, Dr. Vergidis was named Chief of Oncology for RCC.

 

 

Dr. Adrien Chan
Medical Oncologist

 

Dr. ChanDr. Chan was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from McGill University with a BSc. in Biology in 1992. He attended medical school at Memorial University in Newfoundland and graduated in 1996, moving into his internal medicine residency training at Dalhousie University and completing it in 1999.

 

Dr. Chan completed his Medical Oncology training at the University of Ottawa in 2001 and was awarded the Peter Laurence Fenn Memorial Award. Since that time, he has worked at the cancer centre in Thunder Bay, providing exceptional clinical care for his patients, and holding research interests in cancer clinical trials.

 

In 2005 he received a medical staff award of excellence at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and in 2006 he completed a Masters of Public Health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health.

 

 

Dr. Nicole Laferriere
Hematologist

 

Dr. Laferriere Dr. Laferriere completed her HBSc. degree in Medical Laboratory Science at Lakehead University, and then moved on to a Ph.D in Cell Biology at the University of Ottawa. Her post Doctoral work was at the National Research Council.

 

Dr. Laferriere completed her undergraduate medical degree at McMaster University, and then attended the University of Ottawa for her Internal Medicine Residency and Hematology Fellowship.

 

She has received a number of awards and scholarships, including a gold medal at Lakehead University, and NSERC Scholarships at the University of Ottawa.

 

 

Dr. Dolores Sicheri
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist

 

Dr. SicheriDr. Sicheri completed her undergraduate education in Biology-Biochemistry at Columbia University and attended the New York University Medical School where she received her M.D. She then went on to complete her fellowship in Internal Medicine at Downstate Medical Centre, and her subspecialty training in Hematology and Oncology at Albany Medical Hospital in New York.

 

Dr. Sicheri began her career in 1982 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Centre. Since 1987, she practiced as a staff Medical Oncologist at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre until joining the Regional Cancer Care team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in October, 2008.
