Camp Quality


Camp Quality of Northwestern Ontario is a volunteer, charitable organization that strives to improve the quality of life for children living with cancer, through camps and year-round support programs.

 

Camp Quality provides a week of activity focusing on the best that life has to offer in a healthy, natural setting. All staff are volunteers who commit more than a week of their time to camp. They are the heart of Camp Quality.

 

Children age 3 – 18 years who have active cancer or who are in remission can participate, at no cost.

The mission of Hospice Northwest is to assist people living with a life limiting or chronic illness to experience a sense of connectedness, community and support through companionship. Trained volunteers provide support in the home, hospitals and long-term care facilities, at no cost to the individual or family. This support is available to persons who are ill, family members and friends, as well as bereaved persons who have experienced the death of a loved one.

The Ontario Breast Screening Program - Northwest provides free mammograms and breast exams to women 50 and older. In Thunder Bay there are a number of sites, including the Linda Buchan Centre at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where women can be screened. Also, the Ontario Breast Screening Coach travels yearly to regional communities to provide women with breast screening. Breast screening includes mammography, clinical breast examination, and instruction on breast self examination. Both women and their physicians receive a letter describing the results of the screening. Women are automatically recalled every one to two years.

Palliative care is active, compassionate care and support for the chronic and terminally ill. The focus of the Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Team is on improving the person’s quality of life, for the control of physical, emotional, spiritual and social pain. This includes support during grief and bereavement.

 

They provide rapid access to pain and symptom management expertise, referring you to someone who can help. They also provide information, support and education, 24 hours a day.
