Infection Prevention & Control

Click to listen to this page using ReadPleaseThe Infection prevention and control department is staffed with 3 Infection Control Professionals and has the support of an Infectious Diseases physician. We work collaboratively with all staff and our regional partners to provide a seamless system meeting the need of our patients, staff and the public.

We provide numerous services to the TBRHSC including:

  • Daily review of admitted patients to ensure correct bed placement and additional precautions are in place as necessary
  • Ongoing surveillance and monitoring of C-difficile, MRSA and VRE
  • Ongoing surveillance of febrile respiratory illness
  • Ongoing surveillance of central venous line infections and targeted surgical site infections
  • Detecting and assisting to control outbreaks or clusters of infections
  • Education to all staff from front line to all support services and volunteers

The MOHLTC’s hand hygiene program “Just Clean Your Hands” will be launched in the fall of 2008.

Policy development meets the best practice guidelines provided by various organizations including the Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) and reflect the most current research and standards.
