  • Before your MRI, you may need to have an I.V. (intravenous).
  • Your nurse and Child Life Specialist can help explain how an I.V. works.
  • I.V. is the quickest way for fluids to enter your body.
  • I.V. is used to give your body a small amount of contrast material (clear fluid) during your MRI.
  • This material helps provide clearer images if needed.
  • This clear fluid will leave your body through urine (pee) within 24 hours.
